Nicole Richie - Richie Wins Motherhood Award

Socialite NICOLE RICHIE will be honoured with a parenting award - just five months into motherhood.

The Simple Life star - who gave birth to her first child, daughter Harlow, in January (08) - will receive a Golden Pacifier Award from Babytalk Magazine, according to its editor-in-chief Lisa Moran.

Moran tells America's OK! magazine, "Honouring Nicole Richie with a Babytalk Golden Pacifier Award might come as a surprise to some, but we felt that she deserved some recognition for her turnaround since becoming a mom.

"She's grown up a lot since the arrival of little Harlow, and her creation of the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation has demonstrated her efforts to set a good example by shining a spotlight on important issues affecting today's families."

Also to be recognised is former talk show host Ricki Lake for her 2008 documentary The Business of Being Born, which chronicles her home-birthing experience.

MJG's upcoming album, "This Might Be the Day," features twelve new tracks, including the hit single, "Shades." "This Might Be the Day" is being released by 404 Music, Inc. in collaboration with MJG Muzik and Push Management.
In response to the controversy and confusion regarding the mixtape entitled, "Pimp Tight," Nina K. Easton, president/CEO of 404 Music, Inc., states, "I want to stress that 404 Music has absolutely no affiliation with the mixtape, 'Pimp Tight.' Doris Day - Days Romance With Reagan Exposed In New Book

Movie icon DORIS DAY and late actor-turned-U.S. President RONALD REAGAN enjoyed a steam affair, according to the author of a new expose on the beloved actress.

In Doris Day: Reluctant Star, author David Bret claims Reagan was one of the star's six lovers in the years before her career took off in the 1940s.

Bret tells U.S. tabloid the Globe, "She said two things impressed her about Reagan - his skill on the dance floor and his ability to have an intelligent conversation.

"The two would sneak off to his apartment high in the Hollywood Hills and make love."

The shocking new book also reveals Day, real name Doris Kappelhoff, was beaten black and blue by her first husband Al Jorden, who once threatened to shoot the actress/singer and her unborn child before turning the gun on himself in a jealous rage.

In the book, Bret reveals Jorden, who committed suicide after divorcing Day in 1943, pulled a gun on his pregnant wife during a car ride just four weeks before the couple's baby was due.

He writes, "He pulled the car over and pushed the nozzle of the gun into Doris' stomach, intent on carrying out his plan - shooting her and their baby before blowing his brains out.

"Somehow she managed to talk him out of this, instead he beat her when they got home."

Bret claims the incident left Day with a fear of riding in the front of cars.

Winehouse's talent also her curse

Amy Winehouse must stop singing if it means she wins her drugs battle, says the man who discovered her.

Nick Godwyn signed the singer when she was just 16 – and claims her ambition back then was to be a waitress.

Nick dismissed claims that the troubled singer is throwing away her talent, but says he is saddened by what has happened to her since she shot to fame.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "What is happening now is not very pleasant for anybody to watch. I feel she seems to be sad.

"People talk about wasted talent, but I don't look at it like that. If Amy never made another record again it would be sad, but it's less about the music for me and more about 'this is a human being that maybe isn't very happy'."

Nick also revealed he discovered Amy - who has allegedly battled alcohol, drugs and a eating disorder since becoming famous - after one of the singer's friends played him a tape of her singing.

He explained: "I was at the house of one of my other artists when he put on a tape. I asked who it was and he said just a friend.

"I couldn't believe how good she sounded so I asked her to meet me. I asked Amy what she wanted to do with her life and she said she wanted to be a waitress."

Nick admits her early lyrics provided an indicator that Amy, now 24, wasn't happy even back then.

He added: "There were signs, even back then, that she wasn't happy. You can listen to the words of her songs and there aren't many happy, upbeat love songs. And I think that's a reflection of where she is. She only writes songs from personal experience.

"There are some beautiful songs which, lyrically, are fascinating. But some of them are quite sad."

Tunstall's Orpheum show: All that with 'Cherry' on top

Tori Amos leaves major label

Free bird: The singer has fled her Epic Records nest to pursue the "path of independence"

Sons & Daughters - This Gift

Since first emerging in 2004, Glasgow's Sons & Daughters have steadily developed from a sleazy minimalist blues-rock act to an altogether more enthralling musical proposition, blending hints of Motown and Pop into their unpolished garage rock mix.
'This Gift', their third and most accessible album, initially begins where its murky predecessor, 'The Repulsion Box', left off.
Opener 'Gilt Complex' is all dark, sleazy and abrasive pop spat out by a feisty vocal from Adele Bethel, before things begin to steadily shift.
'Split Lips' brings with it a slice of indie pop that sees some light thrown upon Sons & Daughters otherwise gloomy corners - the menacing lyrics contrasting well with the light melodic shades.
Similarly, 'The Nest' sees the band bleed with colour as Motown begins to swing around the back corners without compromising the group's often intense and ferocious sharp-shock sound.
'Darling' meanwhile bares a distinct Sixties pop influence, echoing The Libertines in parts as Scott Paterson's guitar sounds bounce off Bethel's simple, swirling melodies.
Much of the light to their trademark darkness doubtless stemmed from the recruitment of Bernard Butler (Suede, McAlmont & Butler) on production duties. A Sixties obsessive, as a producer Butler is all about big, sweeping anthemic sounds, though here he's forcefully held back at times.
With stories of much studio arguing between band and producer, the record often sounds in parts like it wants to explode down one musical avenue but is prevented from doing so by a four-piece trying to remain rooted to their denim and leather roots. It's this clash of musical worlds which is one of the main factors in 'This Gift' sounding so good in parts.
Butler is toned down to about 30%, which is enough to freshen up Sons & Daughters often one-dimensional sound of the past without losing any bite. On 'Iodine' they sound not unlike The Cure meshed with The La's, while The Libertines and Blondie creep into 'The Bell'.
In all, 'This Gift' is a brighter, more melodic album than previous records, and all the better for it.
